Wilfredo Alicdan
Born in Dasmariñas, Cavite, Philippines
Fine Arts-Major in Painting, Philippine Women's University Institute
Wilfredo Alicdan's works were distinguished by their quaint and geometric folk representations, populated by rounded, stylized figures engaged in traditional and rural genre activities. Alicdan's canvases display a sense of harmony between contrasting formal elements—while his utilization of solid colors and flat backgrounds reinforces the two-dimensionality of his paintings, his use of subtle modeling imbues his figures with rounded, human plasticity. Willy is a founding member of the Anting-Anting Group of Artists. He helps and supports UNICEF by lending his works to be reproduced as a Unicef Cards for the benefit of all the children of the world.
